Udalguri, June 22: The Forest Department has stepped up its action against illegal sand transportation in the Rowta area after a dumper allegedly carrying sand without valid documents was seized during a routine inspection.
A team from the Mazbat Range Forest Office intercepted a dumper bearing registration number AS-25DC-8933 at Jhargaon in Rowta while conducting surveillance operations. The vehicle was reportedly heading towards Kharupetia with a load of sand.
During verification, officials found that the vehicle was not carrying the required transit permit or challan, prompting the department to take immediate action.
Following the seizure, forest personnel escorted the dumper to the Mazbat Range Forest Office, where further legal proceedings are being initiated. Authorities are expected to investigate the origin of the sand and ascertain whether any provisions relating to environmental protection and mining regulations were violated.
The latest operation has once again brought attention to concerns over illegal sand mining and transportation activities in the region.
