Sarma Alleges Foreign Interference, Accuses Congress of Using ‘Pakistan-Linked’ Material

Guwahati, April 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday intensified his attack on the Congress, alleging that foreign-sourced material, including content linked to Pakistani social media networks, was used to target him and his family.

Questioning the intent behind the allegations, Sarma claimed that fabricated documents and images were circulated to falsely implicate his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. He alleged that a lost Emirates ID belonging to a Pakistani individual was manipulated and presented as her UAE passport.

The Chief Minister also targeted Gaurav Gogoi, alleging that such foreign digital networks were used to amplify the claims. He described the episode as a potential case of external interference in the electoral process, stating that the issue raises serious concerns about attempts to influence elections in Assam.

Highlighting the ease of creating misleading digital records, Sarma said that online tools allow individuals to register companies with minimal cost, and alleged that new entities were created in his wife’s name shortly after the Congress press conference to support false narratives.

Reiterating that the matter goes beyond political allegations, he said investigations would uncover the extent of what he described as a coordinated effort involving fabricated evidence and possible criminal wrongdoing.

The remarks mark a further escalation in the ongoing political confrontation between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress ahead of the Assembly elections.
