Guwahati, April 6: The political confrontation between Pawan Khera and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intensified further after fresh claims and counterclaims over allegations concerning Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.
Responding sharply, Sarma rejected the allegations as fabricated and legally untenable. He said that documents presented by Khera, including purported passports from foreign countries such as the UAE, were verified and found to be fraudulent.
According to the Chief Minister, Assam Police, in coordination with Government of India channels, confirmed that the documents shown were fake and not linked to his wife.
Sarma also dismissed claims regarding alleged assets worth ₹52,000 crore, calling them economically implausible. He argued that the figure exceeds the state’s financial scale and does not withstand basic scrutiny. “Even over two decades, such earnings are not feasible,” he said.
Addressing discrepancies cited in the documents, the Chief Minister termed them minor clerical inconsistencies rather than evidence of wrongdoing. He announced that legal proceedings would be initiated against Khera, accusing him of fabricating evidence and engaging in a criminal conspiracy.
Escalating his remarks, Sarma also targeted Rahul Gandhi, alleging a broader political conspiracy behind the episode. He claimed that once a formal complaint is filed, the allegations would collapse under scrutiny and warned that Khera could face legal consequences, including possible imprisonment.
The developments mark a sharp escalation in political tensions between the BJP and the Congress, as both sides intensify their attacks ahead of the elections.
