Nagaon, May 31: A private school in Assam’s Nagaon district was completely destroyed in a late-night fire at Kachkhaiti under Rupahi Hat, causing the loss of property, educational materials and important records worth several lakh rupees.
The fire broke out at around 11 pm on Saturday at Modern Adarsha Senior Secondary School. Local residents suspect that an electrical fault or short circuit may have triggered the blaze.
According to eyewitnesses, the flames spread rapidly through the school premises, reducing the institution to ashes within a short period.
Residents rushed to the spot and attempted to control the fire before the arrival of emergency services. Fire tenders from Sonaribali and Ambagan fire stations later reached the scene and carried out firefighting operations. However, the school had already been gutted by the time the blaze was brought under control.
School authorities reported heavy losses as furniture, educational materials and important documents were destroyed in the incident.
No casualties were reported.
The incident has renewed concerns over the availability of firefighting infrastructure in the region. Residents of Rupahi, Lailuri, Kawaimari and nearby villages have urged the authorities to establish fire stations closer to the area, stating that delayed emergency response often worsens the impact of major fire incidents.
