Second day: Musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami Appears for Questioning 

Guwahati: The investigation into the mysterious death of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg has gathered pace, with musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami appearing before the Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID) on the second day of questioning. Goswami, who was present on the yacht during the September 19 incident in Singapore, described Zubeen as a brother and pledged full cooperation with the probe.

“The investigation is at a crucial juncture, and I will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice for Zubeen Da,” Goswami told reporters outside the CID office. His appearance follows the summons issued in connection with murder allegations filed by the singer’s family.

On Saturday, September 27, Assamese actor Nishita Goswami, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and singer Amritprabha Mahanta were all questioned by CID officials as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The probe has intensified since September 25, when a joint team of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and CID raided the residences of Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, Goswami, and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta in Guwahati. Investigators seized pen drives, a hard disk, a computer CPU, documents, and other materials. Mahanta, the chief organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, had arranged Zubeen’s participation in the event.

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away on September 19 in Singapore after an alleged drowning during the festival. His mortal remains were brought back to Guwahati, where thousands paid homage before his last rites on September 23 at Kamarkuchi village, attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and a host of dignitaries.
