Sikkim Mountaineer Tshering Choden Summits Europe’s Highest Peak, Advances Seven Summits Quest

Gangtok, July 6: Sikkim mountaineer Tshering Choden has successfully scaled Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, taking another significant step towards completing the prestigious Seven Summits challenge.

According to the Sikkim Mountaineering Association, Choden reached the 5,642-metre summit at around 7.30 am local time on Sunday, marking her second successful ascent in the global mountaineering challenge.

The Seven Summits challenge requires climbers to conquer the highest mountain on each of the seven continents and is regarded as one of the most demanding achievements in the sport. Choden had earlier climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, in August 2025.

With two of the seven summits now completed, Choden has moved closer to joining the select group of mountaineers who have successfully completed the challenge.

The Sikkim Mountaineering Association said the latest achievement reflects Choden’s determination, endurance and commitment to high-altitude climbing. It added that her accomplishment is expected to inspire aspiring mountaineers from Sikkim and across the country to pursue adventure sports and mountaineering.
