The principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, was questioned by Cachar Police as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged illegal activities case connected to a spa centre in Silchar, according to police sources.
Investigators suspect that Dr. Gupta owns a room that had been leased to one of the two spa centres operating inside a shopping mall in the city. The premises came under police scrutiny following a recent raid conducted at the establishments.
The operation, carried out on Friday night, led to the detention of 28 women from the two spa centres in connection with allegations of prostitution.
Following the raid, police expanded the investigation to examine the ownership of the premises and the rental agreements associated with the spa centres. As part of this process, Dr. Gupta and his wife were summoned and questioned for nearly one and a half hours at the office of the Superintendent of Police in Cachar.
Police have clarified that no formal charges have been filed against the principal or any of his family members at this stage, and the investigation is continuing.
Sources associated with the probe said investigators are also looking into whether any other influential individuals had links to the establishments being investigated.
Cachar Police have urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions while the inquiry is in progress and to await the outcome of the investigation and official findings.
