Six Detained in Silchar During Police Raid on Alleged Prostitution Racket, Main Accused on the Run

Six persons, including three women, were detained after police conducted a raid on an alleged prostitution racket operating from a house in the 14th Lane area of Second Link Road in Silchar on Sunday night. The operation was launched following repeated complaints from residents about suspected illegal activities at the premises.

According to local sources, people living in the area had been voicing concerns for a long time over alleged anti-social activities linked to the house. Acting on these complaints, police carried out the raid and detained three women and three men believed to be associated with the alleged racket.

Residents alleged that some individuals connected to the operation attempted to attack police personnel and locals with sharp weapons during the raid. However, police managed to bring the situation under control and proceeded with the operation without any major incident.

The action sparked protests in the locality, with a large number of residents gathering to express their anger over what they claimed was a delayed response from the authorities despite longstanding complaints. Locals alleged that the activities had disturbed the social atmosphere of the area and created insecurity among residents.

According to residents, the house where the raid took place belongs to Niyati Das, whom they accused of running the racket for an extended period. However, locals claimed that she managed to escape before police reached the spot.

Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the alleged mastermind and called for strict action against everyone involved in the operation of the racket.

Police sources said the six detained individuals are being questioned and that further investigations are underway to identify other persons linked to the case. Efforts are also continuing to trace and apprehend the main accused.
