Suresh Raina Hints at MS Dhoni’s Return for IPL 2027

Sports Desk: Speculation surrounding the future of MS Dhoni continues to dominate the IPL conversation, but former Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina has offered fresh hope to CSK fans by suggesting that Dhoni could return for the next IPL season. As Chennai Super Kings played their final home match of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk, many supporters expected Dhoni to make an appearance. However, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter once again remained absent from the playing XI, fueling retirement rumours. Raina, however, revealed details of a recent conversation with his close friend and former captain, indicating that Dhoni has not yet decided to walk away from the game.

“I told him, ‘You have given IPL 2026 a missed call. It won’t count. You have to come back next year,’” Raina said while discussing Dhoni’s future. “He said, ‘My body is a little weak.’ I told him we are not believing anything and that he has to play next year. It is ultimately his personal call, but I think he is positive. The team is also coming together well again,” Raina added.

Dhoni had been ruled out for the opening phase of the IPL 2026 season because of a calf injury and has not featured in any match since. Although CSK retained the veteran ahead of the season, his prolonged absence has intensified discussions regarding his retirement. By the time IPL 2027 begins, Dhoni will be 45 years old, making his possible return a major talking point among cricket fans. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings suffered a five-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk, a result that severely damaged their playoff hopes. CSK now face a must-win situation in their final league game against Gujarat Titans on May 21.
