Tezpur: The Asam Sahitya Sabha and the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha will jointly confer the “Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Smarak Bota-2026” on noted folk artist Tarawati Mili Bori of Dhemaji this year, marking the first time the two organisations have come together to observe Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Divas. According to a press release issued by Debojit Bora, Principal Secretary of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, and Kushal Thakuria, Principal Secretary of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, the observance will be held on June 20 at Gogamukh Higher Secondary School in Dhemaji district in collaboration with the Dhemaji district units of both bodies. The award will be presented to Bori in recognition of her contribution to Assamese language, literature, art and culture.

The daylong programme will begin at 8.45 a.m. with flag hoisting by Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami. This will be followed by lamp-lighting by Tankeswar Gogoi, president of the Dhemaji district unit of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, and Smriti Tarpan by Ranjit Siring, president of the Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha. Former Zila Sahitya Sabha president Nandeswar Borgohain will inaugurate the sapling plantation programme.
An open session will commence at 10.30 a.m. under the presidentship of Dr Goswami, beginning with the rendition of the song “Chiro Senehi Mor Bhasa Janani” by students of Gogamukh Higher Secondary School. The session will be inaugurated by Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha Chief (Padadhikar) Dr Bhabendra Nath Deka, while State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu will attend as chief guest. Among the special guests will be Padma Shri awardee Jadab Payeng, Asam Sahitya Sabha vice-president Padum Rajkhowa, and Sangha Principal Secretary Kushal Thakuria. The organisers have extended an invitation to the public to participate in the day-long programme.
