Three Players in Contention to Replace Virat Kohli for Afghanistan ODIs

New Delhi: With reports suggesting that star batter Virat Kohli could miss the upcoming ODI series against the Afghanistan national cricket team due to a hamstring injury, discussions have intensified over who might fill the void in India’s squad. Among the leading contenders is Ruturaj Gaikwad, whose consistent performances in domestic and international cricket have made him a strong candidate for a recall. His ability to anchor an innings and score big runs could make him a like-for-like replacement at the top order.

Another option is Sai Sudharsan, who has impressed selectors with his technique and temperament. The young left-hander has emerged as one of India’s most promising batting talents and could be rewarded with an opportunity in the ODI setup. The third contender is Rajat Patidar, whose recent performances in domestic cricket and franchise tournaments have strengthened his case. Patidar’s aggressive stroke play and ability to handle pressure situations make him an attractive option for the middle order.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India is yet to announce any changes to the squad, selectors are expected to closely assess available options if Kohli is officially ruled out. The Afghanistan series will provide India an opportunity to test its bench strength, with young players eager to capitalize on any opening in the national side.
