The Tripura Legislative Assembly witnessed an uproar on Monday, August 31, after the Opposition alleged that a suspected suicide note linked to the death of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar had been removed and kept hidden.
Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman raised the issue just before Question Hour, claiming that the deceased DGP’s wife, who arrived in Tripura on Sunday, had sought the alleged suicide note. He said she claimed to possess a photograph of the note.
Roy Barman alleged that the suicide note had been removed and hidden. Speaker Rampada Jamatia, however, stopped him from continuing, saying the matter could not be discussed in that manner as Chief Minister Manik Saha had already made statements on the issue twice.
Congress and CPI(M) MLAs then entered the well of the House carrying placards and protested over the alleged disappearance of the note. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath appealed to the Speaker to allow Question Hour to conclude before permitting the Opposition to raise the matter separately.
The protesting MLAs subsequently returned to their seats, and the proceedings of the House continued.
