Agartala, August 16: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday criticised the Congress over its stand on the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, stressing its historical significance and contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Speaking to the media, Saha said some Congress leaders appeared to lack a proper understanding of the song’s historical importance. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ would help recall its role in inspiring patriotism, courage and sacrifice during the freedom movement.
Saha said many people had drawn inspiration from the song and made sacrifices during the struggle for Independence, creating a sense of strength and enthusiasm among the masses.
The Chief Minister also criticised opposition parties over disruptions in Parliament. He said while everyone had the right to enter Parliament, creating disruptions outside after failing to engage in meaningful discussions on important issues was undesirable.
On youth and human resource development, Saha described human resources as Tripura’s biggest asset. He said technology-based, free online examination facilities could significantly benefit young people preparing for competitive examinations and urged the state to make effective use of its human resources to accelerate development.
