AGARTALA: Tripura Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury on Wednesday warned that those allegedly involved in attacks on the party’s offices and workers would not be spared, saying the party was maintaining its own records of such incidents.
Chaudhury made the remarks while inspecting a CPI(M) office in Agartala’s Jogendranagar area, which the party alleged was vandalised by BJP workers on Monday.
He accused the BJP of undermining democratic values and alleged that the ruling party’s actions contradicted its claims of upholding democracy.
Chaudhury also alleged that the government was seeking to divert attention from protests over issues including increased power tariffs and alleged misuse of public funds by promising a 100 per cent subsidy on power tariffs.
Referring to a BJP rally held near the CPI(M) office, he described it as an example of the alleged erosion of democratic norms and claimed that the office had been attacked around 10 times.
The CPI(M) leader said the party was documenting alleged attacks on its offices and workers. “Nobody involved in these attacks will be spared. We are maintaining a diary of these incidents,” he said.
He also challenged claims that the CPI(M) had initiated violence, saying the party would not reopen the office if anyone could establish that it had launched the first attack.
