Agartala, August 15: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) had doubled in six years, highlighting the economic and social progress achieved across sectors over the past eight years.
Addressing the Independence Day celebrations at Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala, Saha said the government had been implementing various development programmes to improve people’s socio-economic conditions. He added that Tripura’s per capita income had also moved close to the national average.
Saha said Tripura had largely maintained a peaceful environment and recorded its lowest crime level in two decades last year. He said the improved law-and-order situation had also encouraged investors to explore opportunities in the state.
Referring to the ‘Destination Tripura: Business Summit’, Saha said the event generated investment proposals worth around Rs 1.32 lakh crore, with representatives from 10 foreign embassies participating.
He said Tripura had received around 360 national and regional awards for its performance in sectors including agriculture, rural development and Panchayati Raj.
The Chief Minister also highlighted initiatives focused on farmers’ welfare, connectivity, healthcare and rural development, aimed at ensuring balanced and inclusive growth.
On healthcare, Saha said the state had signed an MoU with AIIMS, New Delhi, to improve services at GBP Hospital in Agartala. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
Saha also highlighted the rehabilitation of 6,935 Bru families repatriated from Mizoram under an agreement with the Centre aimed at providing a lasting solution to their displacement.
