Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman has sought central assistance for the restoration and development of Rudrasagar Lake, with a proposal to promote it as one of India’s iconic water bodies.
Barman raised the issue during a meeting with Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Dr Raj Bhushan Choudhary at the latter’s official residence.
The minister, who represents the area as an MLA, called for a comprehensive restoration plan covering the lake’s water-holding capacity, the modernisation of water-flow management at Noachhara and the renovation of the confluence of the Kanchigang and Gomati rivers.
He urged the Centre to provide the necessary assistance and take steps to develop Rudrasagar as a nationally recognised landmark.
Highlighting the lake’s ecological, historical and tourism value, Barman said sustainable restoration, with due regard for its natural beauty and environmental balance, could make it a major tourist destination.
He added that increased tourism and related activities could create employment opportunities and support the local economy.
According to Barman, Choudhary gave consideration to the proposals and assured him that necessary steps would be taken at the earliest.
Barman expressed confidence that the initiative would help preserve Rudrasagar’s heritage while creating new opportunities for future generations.
