Tripura Plans Mega Business Conclave in July Amid Rising Investment Interest

Agartala, May 15: Tripura is preparing to host a major business conclave in July as the state government seeks to capitalise on increasing investor interest and a steady growth in industrial proposals across sectors.

Officials said the state has signed 394 Memoranda of Understanding worth Rs 35,140 crore since 2022, while projects valued at Rs 5,352 crore have already been grounded. The upcoming conclave is expected to bring together industrialists, investors and business leaders from different parts of the country.

Addressing a press conference, Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte said Tripura had become “the first in the country to complete all priority areas under deregulation phase II” of the Centre’s compliance reduction and deregulation initiative aimed at simplifying approvals and easing regulatory procedures for industries and service-sector enterprises.

The state government believes that recent reforms and infrastructure expansion have strengthened Tripura’s position as an emerging investment hub in the Northeast.

“We have already put infrastructure — railway, national highway and airway — in place, which is required for pushing investment or industries,” Gitte said, adding that an “investment-friendly atmosphere” had contributed to growing business interest in the state.

Officials said the Industries and Commerce Department has been organising roadshows in major cities across India to showcase Tripura’s industrial potential and attract companies seeking expansion opportunities in the Northeast.

Based on interactions with industrial stakeholders, the government expects the proposed conclave to generate fresh investment proposals worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore.

“The government is investing Rs 10,000 crore for physical infrastructure, and if we manage to bring in Rs 10,000 crore through private investment, it will increase the state’s GDP from 12 per cent to 16 per cent,” Gitte stated.

The government is also attempting to attract information technology firms by promoting Tripura as a business-friendly destination supported by improved connectivity and regulatory reforms.

On the long-pending operationalisation of the Maitri Setu connecting Sabroom in Tripura with Ramgarh in Bangladesh, Gitte said the state had already approached the Centre seeking its early opening. He added that the bridge is expected to become operational soon, a development likely to significantly enhance regional trade and connectivity between India and Bangladesh.
