Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is set to inaugurate the Agartala Civil Hospital soon as part of the state government’s efforts to reduce the increasing patient burden on two major referral healthcare institutions—GBP Hospital and IGM Hospital, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte said on July 3.
Addressing reporters, Gitte stated that the hospital’s infrastructure is fully ready and the facility will be opened for residents of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area. He added that the new hospital is expected to significantly ease congestion at existing government medical facilities in the state capital.
“The Chief Minister has decided to open Agartala Civil Hospital for the people living in the AMC area. All infrastructure is now ready, and the facility will be inaugurated soon,” Gitte said.
The announcement comes at a time when the state government has also implemented a ban on private practice by faculty members and medical officers of GBP Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). The decision is part of broader measures aimed at strengthening public healthcare services and ensuring greater availability of medical professionals in government hospitals.
With the upcoming inauguration, the Agartala Civil Hospital is expected to play a key role in decentralising patient flow and improving access to healthcare services for residents of the urban areas in Tripura.
