Two Arrested in Mizoram for Allegedly Uploading Obscene Content on Social Media

Aizawl, May 17: Mizoram Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly uploading obscene and sexually explicit content on social media platforms, officials said on Sunday.

According to an official statement, the investigation was initiated after authorities received information regarding obscene videos being circulated online through two publicly accessible YouTube accounts, including access by minors.

During the course of the inquiry, police found that the content appeared to violate provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 294 and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, both of which relate to the publication or transmission of obscene material through digital platforms.

Following preliminary findings, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered a case on April 26 and began a detailed investigation into the matter.

With technical analysis and assistance from YouTube, investigators were able to identify the alleged operators of the accounts on May 14.

Police identified the accused as Henry Lalrinpuia and Vanlalhmangaihzuala.

According to the statement, Henry was arrested on Friday, while Vanlalhmangaihzuala was taken into custody on Saturday.

Officials said mobile phones belonging to the accused have also been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
