Tezpur: The 31st Inter-District Junior Girls’ Handball Championship began here on a festive note at Chitraban Bakori, with 350 players from 18 districts of Assam taking part in the two-day meet. The tournament, jointly organised by the Sonitpur District Handball Association and the Beach Handball Association, was inaugurated in the presence of Ritu Baran Sarma, Vice-President of the Assam Olympic Association and MLA of Borsala, Prithiraj Rava, MLA of Tezpur, Jiten Borthakur, President of the Tezpur District Sports Association, Pranjal Dihingia, Sonitpur District Sports Officer, veteran sportsperson Biswaranjan Kalita and Pushpa Deka, former Chairperson of the Tezpur Municipal Board among other dignitaries.

The dignitaries lauded the young players who had travelled from different parts of the State to participate in the championship and wished them success. Dr. Kalita hoisted the main flag, while office-bearers of the organising associations hoisted the association flag, at a ceremony attended by a large number of sports enthusiasts from Tezpur.
