Udalguri–Sonitpur, April 23: The Thana Udalguri Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee will organise a two-day Rongali Bihu festival beginning April 25 at the premises of Gopal Satra in Thana Udalguri, with active support from local residents.
According to the organisers, the event will mark its fifth edition this year and will feature a variety of cultural, social, and recreational activities.
On April 25, the celebration will commence with the hoisting of the Bihu flag by committee president Pradip Kalita, followed by a tribute ceremony led by general secretary Gyanadwip Kalita at 8:30 am. A tree plantation drive will take place at 9:30 am, conducted by Madhu Patowary, headmaster of Thana Udalguri Primary School. Sports competitions will begin at 11:00 am under the supervision of Tarani Baishya, Hemjit Kalita, Arup Kalita, Himan Deka, and Jagadish Baishya. A quiz competition is scheduled for 12:00 pm, to be conducted by Shishuram Kalita, Headmaster of Purani Thana Primary School, along with Donda Sohoriya and retired higher secondary teacher Jimen Barman. A frog-jumping competition will follow at 3:00 pm, organised by retired teacher Rang Bahadur Chouhan. The day will conclude with dance performances by local artists at 6:00 pm.
On April 26, former ABSU president Dipen Boro will inaugurate a grand cultural procession at 9:00 am. The procession will feature noted comedian Deepjyoti Deka, known for his work on “Bhanga TV”, along with Mithun Das. In the evening, social worker Ganda Khungur Basumatary will formally inaugurate the Bihu stage at 5:00 pm, followed by a felicitation ceremony at 5:30 pm and Bihu dance performances at 6:00 pm.
Several dignitaries are expected to attend the seminar as distinguished guests, including Cabinet Minister Chandan Boro, BTC Executive Member Fres Musahary, BTC Speaker Tridip Daimary, and Ajay Kumar Hazarika. Among the invited guests are Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Joy Bikash, Superintendent of Police Padmanabha Baruah, Officer-in-Charge (Headquarters) Manojwal Gogoi, District Agriculture Officer Manoj Narzary, Assistant Agriculture Officer of Dhekiajuli Dul Das, BTC Boundary Commission Chairman Dalim Bayan, social worker Soneswar Owari, and Udalguri VCDC Chairperson Ganga Devi. BTC Deputy Chief Executive Member Rihan Daimary will inaugurate the cultural stage at 8:00 pm, followed by performances by invited artists Jeking Raj and Monika Medhi at 9:00 pm.
The organising committee has extended an open invitation to the public to attend and participate in all the events over the two days.
