Two Killed, Several Injured in Wild Elephant Attacks in Assam’s Nagaon District

Nagaon, May 30: Two people, including a woman, were killed and several others injured after wild elephants entered villages under the Kampur Range Forest Office in Assam’s Nagaon district during the early hours of Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Chahaj Uddin and Hanufa Khatun. Both reportedly lost their lives after being trampled by wild elephants that strayed into Kandapara and Ranglubasti villages.

According to family members, Hanufa Khatun was dragged out of her house by an elephant before being fatally attacked. The incident occurred amid a series of elephant intrusions reported across the area during the night.

Residents said a herd of wild elephants moved through several localities, triggering panic among villagers and causing widespread disruption. The animals allegedly rampaged through the area, attacking residents and damaging property.

Apart from the two fatalities, several people reportedly sustained serious injuries in the attacks. The injured were provided medical treatment, although the exact number of those affected was not immediately available.

Forest Department officials and local authorities have been monitoring the situation and assessing the extent of the damage caused by the elephant movement.

The tragedy has cast a shadow over the affected villages, with residents expressing concern over recurring incidents of human-elephant conflict in the region.
