Imphal, April 22: Security forces have arrested two suspected militants linked to insurgent groups in Tengnoupal district as part of intensified operations in border areas.
The arrests were made on April 20 in the T. Bongmol area under Moreh Police Station. The accused have been identified as Salam Yaima Meitei (19) from Bishnupur district, allegedly associated with PREPAK (Pro), and Wakrambam Rahul Meitei alias Malemnganba (18) from Imphal West district, suspected to have links with the PLA.
Officials said the operation was carried out in a sensitive belt near the India–Myanmar border, where surveillance has been heightened due to continued militant movement. The Moreh region remains under close watch given its strategic significance and history of insurgent activity.
In a separate development on April 21, Manipur Police arrested two individuals from Tingri Makha Leikai in Imphal East district for allegedly triggering violence at Koirengei crossing along National Highway-02, the Imphal–Dimapur road.
The accused, Thoudam Gojendro Singh and Pukhrambam Imo Chinglemba, were reportedly involved in blocking the highway by burning debris and pelting stones at security personnel using slingshots. Traffic movement was briefly disrupted due to the blockade.
Police confirmed that Thoudam Gojendro Singh is a serving personnel of Manipur Police, and an internal inquiry has been initiated into his alleged involvement.
Security has been tightened in both areas, with authorities stating that operations against militant activity and public disorder will continue.
