Guwahati, May 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said wildlife tourism is emerging as a major contributor to the state’s economy, with growing tourist footfall creating new livelihood opportunities and supporting local enterprises around protected areas.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister noted that Assam’s wildlife economy is witnessing significant growth, with more than one lakh visitors choosing to visit Manas National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
“From jeep safaris to thriving eco-resorts, Assam’s wildlife economy is roaring,” Sarma stated.
He said the increase in visitor numbers has helped create a vibrant ecosystem around wildlife tourism, generating employment and encouraging entrepreneurship in sectors such as hospitality, transport, eco-tourism and other nature-based activities.
According to the Chief Minister, the growing popularity of Manas and Pobitora reflects the success of long-term conservation efforts and is helping showcase Assam’s rich biodiversity and natural heritage to visitors from across India and abroad.
The state government has been promoting wildlife tourism as an important component of sustainable economic development while continuing to focus on biodiversity conservation and community participation in and around protected forest areas.
