Woman Found Dead at Rented House in Guwahati, Police Probe Underway

Guwahati, June 23: A young woman was found dead at her rented accommodation in the Chachal area of Guwahati on the night of June 22, leading police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The deceased was identified as Parul Moni Pegu, a native of Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district. She had been living as a tenant at House No. 7 on Tribeni Path for the past three months and was employed with a Reliance insurance company.

According to sources, the room had remained locked since Monday morning, raising concern among neighbours and acquaintances. Family members reportedly tried to contact her several times during the day, but their calls went unanswered.

Later in the evening, relatives and colleagues reached the rented premises and allegedly found her hanging inside the room. The incident was subsequently reported to the police.

A team from Dispur Police Station arrived at the spot and initiated an inquiry. The body was recovered in the presence of police personnel, and necessary legal procedures were carried out. Authorities have not yet officially determined the exact cause and circumstances of the death.

Some colleagues present at the scene claimed that Pegu had been involved in a relationship with a married man for several years and had only recently learned about his marital status. They alleged that she had been under emotional distress following the revelation. However, these claims have not been independently confirmed by investigators.

Meanwhile, a leader of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) expressed suspicion over the incident and alleged that the death could have been a planned murder. The organisation has called for a comprehensive, impartial and transparent investigation.

Police have not issued any statement indicating foul play, and the investigation is continuing.
