A joint operation by Hailakandi Police, Cachar Police and the 38 Assam Rifles led to the seizure of a large consignment of Yaba tablets worth an estimated Rs 1.3 crore at Lakhirband Bypass in Assam’s Hailakandi district, officials said.
The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, during which security personnel apprehended Karim Uddin (50), a resident of Dholai in neighbouring Cachar district.
Police said the team recovered 30,000 Yaba tablets weighing around 3.3 kilograms from the accused. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 1.3 crore.
Investigators have launched a probe into the accused’s alleged links with a drug trafficking network and are working to trace the origin and intended destination of the consignment. Efforts are also underway to identify other individuals suspected to be connected with the racket.
Describing the recovery as a major success in the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, police said enforcement agencies will continue to intensify operations to crack down on drug trafficking, particularly in the border region. Further investigation is in progress.
