Missing Tripura Tourist Found Dead in Nagaland’s Dzukou Valley After Month-Long Search

Kohima, Feb 8: The body of a 22-year-old tourist from Tripura, who went missing during a visit to Nagaland’s scenic Dzukou Valley last month, was recovered on Saturday, police confirmed on February 8. The deceased was identified as Pranab Das, a resident of the Srinagar area in West Tripura district.

According to police officials, Das had entered the Dzukou Valley on January 4 after obtaining an entry ticket from the Viswema entry point. The valley, popular among trekkers for its rolling hills, streams and the rare Dzukou lily, is located along the border of Nagaland and Manipur and is frequented by tourists throughout the year.

Authorities said the identity of the body was established through personal belongings found at the site, including the entry ticket, two mobile phones, a wallet containing cash and official identification documents. An inquest was carried out at the location in the presence of officials from the Kohima district administration and independent witnesses, following standard procedures.

Police stated that it was premature to determine the exact cause of death. However, preliminary observations and materials available at the scene did not point towards any signs of foul play. Further examination and formalities are expected to follow as part of the investigation.

The family of Pranab Das has been informed about the recovery, officials added. The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with trekking in remote and rugged terrain, even in well-known tourist destinations.
