Guwahati, Feb 10: A five-day capacity-building and training programme for registered Muga seed producers was inaugurated on February 9 at the Central Silk Board’s Silkworm Seed Production Centre (Muga) at Kaliabari, Boko, with the aim of promoting scientific seed production practices and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
Organised by the Central Silk Board, the programme has brought together 20 registered seed producers from different parts of the region. The training focuses on quality seed production, sustainable sericulture practices and field-level application of modern technologies.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr M. Maheshwari, Director, MESSO, who highlighted the importance of scientific Muga culture in enhancing seed quality and productivity. He encouraged participants to adopt sustainable and modern techniques to strengthen the Muga silk value chain and ensure long-term economic gains.
During the inaugural session, Dr Manabendra Deka, Scientist-D, P3 Unit, Hahim, delivered a technical lecture on advanced practices in Muga seed production and disease management. The programme is being coordinated by Shri Dharavath Saicharan, Scientist-B and In-charge of CSB-SSPC (Muga), Kaliabari, with support from Shri Nameshwar Das, Senior Technical Assistant.
Training kits were distributed to all participants to facilitate hands-on learning and effective adoption of the demonstrated technologies.
