Dilip Kumar Baruah’s 70th birthday observed with exhibition of his 70 books

Tezpur: Noted children’s writer of Tezpur Dilip Kumar Baruah marked his 70th birthday on Friday by organising a solo exhibition of 70 selected titles authored by him and by releasing, in both print and digital formats, a comprehensive edited volume on his literary life and contributions.

The programme, held at the auditorium of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Girls College here was presided over by the college principal Dr. Tapan Kumar Kalita and began with a recitation of a poem of Nilmani Phukan by Dharitri Shravan, who also anchored the entire event. The book exhibition was formally inaugurated by novelist and former president of the Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha Dr. Bhupen Saikia. Dr Saikia highly commended the initiative of organising such a solo exhibition of an author’s own books on his birthday.

The edited volume, compiled by Dr. Jintumoni Bora, Associate Professor of English at Dispur Law College, was jointly unveiled by 12 dignitaries  which include Santanu Baruah, Nabin Chandra Lahkar, Karuna Saikia, Pankaj Baruah, Kumud Saikia, Binanda Bora, Rajen Hazarika, Arun Kumar Saha, Birendra Nath Goswami, Suren Bora, Bhuban Luitel and Gopal Kashyap.The digital edition of the book was launched by Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika, Principal of Tezpur College, by clicking a button on a laptop. Writer Nabin Chandra Lahkar highlighted the impact of Baruah’s children’s writings while Santanu Barua, Pankaj Barua and several other dignitaries also delivered brief speeches on the literary journey of Dilip Kumar Barua and its enduring impact on the Assamese literary world.

Theatre personality Karuna Saikia added a creative touch by performing a dramatic dialogue during the programme. Welcoming the digital release, Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika observed that the new generation increasingly reads books in digital formats alongside print, underlining the relevance of such dual-format publications in contemporary times. Receiving felicitations, Dilip Kumar Baruah said that books would continue to shape young minds even in a rapidly changing digital age.
