Tezpur: Intern doctors at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital staged a protest on campus on Monday alleging that their February stipend has not yet been paid despite a directive from the state government to release salaries ahead of the Holi festival. According to the protesting interns, Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier instructed that February salaries of government employees be disbursed before February 27 in view of the upcoming festivals. However, the intern doctors claimed the directive was not implemented in their case.

The junior doctors stated that while the principal and superintendent of the medical college had reportedly taken steps to ensure timely payment, negligence by certain staff members allegedly led to the delay. As many as 141 intern doctors currently working at the institution are still waiting for their stipend for February, they said.
Demanding immediate payment, the interns organised a protest within the medical college premises, expressing frustration over the delay and urging the authorities to resolve the matter at the earliest.
