Imphal, March 28: Security forces in Manipur carried out coordinated operations over March 26 and 27, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and explosives and the arrest of several active cadres linked to proscribed insurgent outfits across multiple districts.
According to official sources, a major seizure was made on March 27 in the Moidangpok Khunou area under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district. Personnel recovered a stockpile of weapons and tactical equipment, including three locally made bolt-action single-barrel guns, two pistols with magazines, and a 2-inch mortar. The haul also included anti-riot 38 mm cartridges, 7.62 mm ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and other items. Authorities indicated that the recovery may have helped prevent potential threats in the region.
In Tengnoupal district, an active cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was apprehended on March 26 between Border Pillars 78 and 79 under Moreh Police Station. The individual was identified as Chongtham Nanao Singh alias Khunou (29), a resident of Kakching district.
Operations in the same area continued on March 27, resulting in the arrest of two more insurgent operatives between Border Pillars 73 and 74. The accused were identified as Angom Lemba Meitei alias Liklaingamba (26), associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and Yumnam Boni Meitei alias Yaitamba (42), linked to the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).
In a separate action, an active cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/PLA, Chingakham Nongpoknganba Meitei (21), was arrested from his locality under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district, with a mobile phone seized from his possession.
Further intensifying the crackdown, security forces also apprehended an active cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P), Thongam Premjit Singh (49), from Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai under Imphal Police Station. Officials said the accused is linked to a 2022 bomb explosion case in Sagolband Takhellambam Leikai. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered during the operation.
Authorities said the series of operations reflects ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities and dismantle militant networks in the state, with investigations continuing to uncover further links and operational details.
