Udalguri-Sonitpur, Aug. 11: Thousands of regular teachers under the Udalguri, Mazbat and Bhergaon education blocks on Tuesday refrained from teaching duties and approached the Udalguri Police Station and the Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO), seeking an inquiry into the manner in which their salaries had been credited.
The teachers submitted complaints at around 11.30am following a call from the Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association.
In their complaint, the teachers said they had been receiving their regular salaries through the Udalguri Treasury directly into their bank accounts until 2026. However, they alleged that an amount equivalent to their regular salary was credited to their accounts on Monday through the Treasury under the SNA-SPARSH module of Samagra Shiksha.
The teachers said they had resigned from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) on October 21, 2024, and were subsequently appointed as regular teachers through appointment orders issued by the Directorate of Elementary Education.
They therefore expressed concern over the crediting of funds meant for the Samagra Shiksha scheme into their personal accounts.
The teachers apprehended that the payment could have resulted from an administrative or departmental error. They also said that if the amount had been credited as scheme funds, they might not be able to return it after spending it.
The teachers sought an immediate inquiry to clarify the source and nature of the payment and appealed to the government to restore the earlier system of salary disbursement through the Treasury.
