Centre Approves Six New Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Manipur to Boost Farm Support

Imphal, March 28: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on March 27 announced the establishment of six new Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Manipur following a meeting with the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen in the national capital.

Acting on a request made by Kipgen, the Union Minister directed the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to set up the new KVKs aimed at strengthening agricultural extension services and improving outreach to farmers across the state.

Chouhan also asked the Deputy Chief Minister to submit a proposal for establishing a tissue culture laboratory in Manipur, a move expected to support advanced agricultural research and enhance productivity.

During the meeting, Kipgen expressed appreciation for the Centre’s decision to extend the timeline of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-I, which plays a key role in improving rural connectivity in the region.

Officials said the establishment of additional KVKs is expected to expand technical support for farmers and contribute to strengthening the agricultural sector in Manipur.
