Guwahati, March 29: A portrait of Amit Shah created using hundreds of diyas at Shaheed Maidan in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur district, underscored the Bharatiya Janata Party’s intensified campaign push in Assam on March 28 ahead of the Vijay Sankalp rally.
Party workers arranged earthen lamps to form Shah’s likeness, presenting it as a symbolic display of support as electioneering gathers pace across the state.
Later in the day, Shah led a roadshow in Guwahati, drawing large crowds with supporters lining the streets. He acknowledged the turnout by showering flower petals, energising party cadres and reinforcing campaign momentum.
Addressing reporters after the event, Shah expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, stating that the BJP would return to power with a decisive mandate. “We are going to form the government in Assam once again with a thumping majority for the third time… We will form the government with more than 90 seats,” he said, adding that voters are keen to bring back the BJP-led government.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies is scheduled for April 9, with counting of votes on May 4, as per the Election Commission of India.
The election is expected to witness a direct contest between the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Congress, with the incumbent government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seeking a third consecutive term.
