Guwahati, April 4: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi on April 4 asserted that a shift in public sentiment is underway in the state, expressing confidence that a Congress-led alliance will benefit from growing demand for political change.
Addressing the media, Gogoi said voters are looking for an alternative after what he described as “ten years of oppression and corruption.” He claimed there is a visible change in mood across Assam, adding that people now place their trust in the opposition alliance.
Responding to remarks by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had alleged that Pakistani media was campaigning in his favour, Gogoi dismissed the charge and criticised the Chief Minister for making what he termed baseless statements.
“The Chief Minister even dreams of seeing Rahul Gandhi’s body double. It is sad that the Chief Minister of a state has so many problems,” Gogoi said, suggesting that such comments reflect political unease.
He further claimed that the BJP leadership is under pressure ahead of the elections, stating that the political ground is shifting.
The remarks underline the intensifying exchange between the ruling BJP and the Congress in Assam, as both sides escalate their rhetoric in the run-up to the Assembly polls.
