BJP Files Police Complaint Against Mallikarjun Kharge Over ‘Snake’ Remark, Protests Erupt Across States

Guwahati, April 10: Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab’s Bathinda have filed a police complaint against Mallikarjun Kharge over his alleged “snake” remark made during an election rally in Assam, accusing him of making statements that could incite unrest.

According to former Punjab BJP state secretary Sukhpal Singh Sra, the complaint was submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Bathinda, seeking legal action against the Congress president. He alleged that Kharge, while addressing a gathering, made remarks comparing members of the RSS and BJP to snakes, which he claimed could provoke tensions.

Sra further stated that the comments reflected what he described as a deliberate attempt to create unrest. He added that the party would move the High Court if the police failed to act on the complaint.

The controversy has also sparked protests in Karnataka, where BJP leaders and workers staged a demonstration outside the Mandya Superintendent of Police office, demanding action against Kharge. Several party leaders, including Manjunath, Prasanna, Hosahalli Shivu, Shivakumar Aaradhya, Nithyananda, Madaraja Arasu, and Mahantappa, participated in the protest and submitted a formal complaint.

In Assam, BJP leaders have also lodged a complaint at Basistha Police Station in Guwahati, alleging that the remarks were derogatory towards the party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The row stems from Kharge’s speech at an election rally in Assam, which has triggered political reactions across multiple states. While BJP leaders have termed the remarks inflammatory, a response from the Indian National Congress is awaited.
