Manipur CM Calls State ‘Mini India’, Pushes Inclusive Development During Senapati Visit

Imphal, April 11: Yumnam Khemchand Singh has described Manipur as a “Mini India”, highlighting its diverse communities and stressing the importance of inclusive development to maintain unity and peace across the state.

During a visit to Senapati district, the Chief Minister interacted with civil society organisations from Naga-majority areas and expressed gratitude to the people of Senapati, Mao, and Kangpokpi for their support in ongoing efforts to restore normalcy. He noted that the region has demonstrated resilience and cooperation during challenging times.

The visit was marked by logistical adjustments, as adverse weather conditions forced the Chief Minister to travel by road instead of helicopter. With this, he became the first Chief Minister to reach Senapati via Kangpokpi after assuming office.

Focusing on development priorities, Singh unveiled several initiatives, including plans to establish an agricultural and economic transportation hub. He also attended a reception organised by civil society groups, where he reiterated that balanced growth across all districts is essential for the state’s progress.

Referring to Manipur’s diverse demographic composition, Singh said the state’s territorial integrity has long been preserved by its 36 communities, reinforcing its identity as a “Mini India”. He emphasised that sustainable development can only be achieved when all regions progress alongside the capital.

Invoking the vision of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the Northeast, the Chief Minister underlined that the region’s advancement is vital to national growth.

He further announced that a proposal by the Naga People’s Organisation to establish a medical college in Senapati would be placed before the state cabinet. In addition, he outlined plans for multiple infrastructure projects, including district-level agricultural and transportation hubs, a multi-purpose centre, and the development of 75 Primary Health Centres.

As part of the visit, Singh laid foundation stones for 69 Anganwadi centres, floodlighting facilities at Senapati Public Turf Ground, and several community infrastructure projects such as schools and water reservoirs.

On his return, the Chief Minister halted at the residence of MLA Kahkhollet Kipgen in Hengbung, Kangpokpi district, where he reviewed ongoing development works and assured continued government support.

The visit reflects the government’s renewed emphasis on inclusive growth and infrastructure expansion across Manipur’s hill districts.
