Charaideo, April 16: Security forces have detained a person in Charaideo district on suspicion of links with the proscribed ULFA (Independent), officials said.
The individual, identified as Wang alias Noni, was apprehended during an operation in the Namtola area under Sonari subdivision. Authorities suspect he was acting as a linkman for the outfit, allegedly facilitating communication or logistical support.
Officials have withheld further operational details due to the ongoing investigation. The detained individual is currently being interrogated to determine the extent of his involvement and identify any wider network connections.
In a related development, police in Tinsukia district have apprehended seven alleged linkmen of ULFA (Independent) in separate operations across multiple locations. According to police sources, the individuals were reportedly involved in sharing information with the insurgent group over an extended period.
The seven detainees have been identified as Barlin Neog from Bordumsa; Mithu Gohain and Lilambar Moran from Pengree; Bikash Deka from Kakopathar; Shiba Deb and Paritosh Deb from Miao in Arunachal Pradesh; and Manob Dey from Makum.
Police said all individuals are under interrogation as part of an ongoing effort to establish the extent of their activities and possible links within the network. Further investigation is underway.
