AIR Aizawl Marks 90 Years as Minister Hails Its Role in Preserving Mizo Identity

Aizawl, May 6: Mizoram Information and Public Relations Minister B Lalchhanzova on May 5 described All India Radio Aizawl as a “vital guardian of Mizo identity,” underscoring its enduring contribution to preserving the state’s culture and language.

Speaking at a musical concert organised as part of the broadcaster’s 90th anniversary celebrations, the minister praised AIR’s long-standing role in safeguarding indigenous traditions at a time when many cultures globally face gradual erosion. He noted that the platform has evolved beyond conventional broadcasting to become a custodian of Mizo heritage, promoting local literature and music while fostering a sense of pride and positive values among the people.

On the occasion, AIR Aizawl Director and Cluster Head Dr Lalropuia reflected on the organisation’s historical journey, stating that it has served as a key medium of communication for the masses since before India’s independence. He emphasised that AIR continues to function as a crucial link between the government and citizens, contributing to national development and aligning with broader policy initiatives.

Established on June 8, 1936, with its headquarters in New Delhi, All India Radio operates around 230 stations across the country, including Aizawl. As part of the ongoing celebrations, AIR Aizawl is set to organise a walkathon later this week, while the main commemorative event will be held on June 8 at Vanapa Hall in the presence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
