Guwahati, May 7: The Indian National Congress in Assam has convened a major review meeting of its district units on May 9 to assess the party’s performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections, where the Congress-led opposition alliance suffered a significant electoral setback.
A circular issued by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary (organisation) Ramen Baruah directed concerned party functionaries to remain present in Guwahati for the meeting.
According to the communication, all Assam PCC office bearers, District Congress Committee presidents, in-charge presidents, and senior vice presidents have been instructed to attend the review session.
The circular stated that the meeting would deliberate on the outcome of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections and conduct a detailed assessment of the party’s organisational and electoral performance across the state.
The Congress-led alliance managed to secure only 19 seats in the 126-member Assembly, while the BJP-led NDA swept the polls with 102 seats.
Meanwhile, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi held a virtual interaction with party candidates on Tuesday to gather feedback and discuss the reasons behind the election outcome.
