Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested Deepak Singla following raids at his residence in Delhi in connection with an alleged bank fraud case. According to ED officials, the searches were carried out early in the morning as part of an ongoing probe into an alleged large-scale bank loan fraud. The agency has accused Singla and others of conspiring to defraud public sector banks by allegedly submitting forged documents and misrepresenting facts to obtain substantial loans, which were later allegedly diverted for personal use.

Sources said ED officials seized documents, digital devices, and financial records during the operation. After preliminary questioning, Singla was taken into custody and shifted to the agency’s regional office for further interrogation. Singla, considered a prominent face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, claimed the action was politically motivated. In a statement shared on social media, his team alleged that the BJP was attempting to suppress opposition voices by using central agencies.
Reacting to the arrest, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Singla was targeted because he refused to join the BJP. Kejriwal stated that the arrest was politically driven and not linked to any wrongdoing. AAP leader Atishi also criticised the Centre, alleging misuse of investigative agencies against opposition leaders. She claimed Singla was being targeted for his role in strengthening the party’s organisational presence in Goa. The ED, however, has maintained that the investigation is based on financial irregularities and alleged fraud involving public sector banks. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
