Rain Triggers Severe Waterlogging in Tinsukia, Residents Raise Concerns Over Drainage

Tinsukia, May 23: A brief spell of rain on May 23 triggered severe artificial flooding across Assam’s commercial town of Tinsukia, submerging major roads and causing disruption to daily life.

Large parts of the town remained waterlogged after rainfall inundated several key roads. Residents alleged that inadequate drainage infrastructure and poor water management continue to aggravate the recurring problem of artificial flooding in the area.

Students from schools and colleges were among those most affected as waterlogging disrupted movement in several localities. Significant inconvenience was reported near the town’s only women’s college, where accumulated water reportedly made access to and from the campus difficult.

Areas near the ASTC premises in Tinsukia and stretches along the busy AT Road were also submerged, affecting traffic movement and routine activities.

Local residents voiced frustration over the recurring situation, alleging that the longstanding problem remains unresolved despite repeated demands for better drainage systems and urban flood management measures.

Artificial flooding during monsoon showers has remained a recurring issue in Tinsukia, with residents frequently seeking long-term infrastructure improvements to mitigate waterlogging and improve urban resilience.
