GSA Honours Athletes and Teams at Annual Award Ceremony 2026

Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports Association organised its Annual Award Ceremony 2026 at the 91 Yards Club Auditorium inside the ACA Stadium Complex at Barsapara on May 22, recognising the achievements of athletes, teams and officials who excelled in various state-level competitions during the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons. The programme celebrated outstanding performances across athletics, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and cricket. Awardees were felicitated with traditional gamochas and mementoes in recognition of their contribution to sports development in Assam. In athletics, the Guwahati district team secured eight gold and nine silver medals in the 46th State-Level Inter-District Junior and Senior Athletic Meet held at Morigaon in December 2024.

The basketball teams also performed impressively, with the Guwahati District girls’ team emerging champions in the All Assam Inter-District U-17 Girls Basketball Championship at Nagaon, while finishing runners-up in the U-14 and U-19 categories. The boys’ team also finished runners-up in the All Assam Sub-Junior U-14 Championship 2025. In volleyball, the Guwahati men’s team won the Beach Volleyball Championship at Dhubri and secured runner-up positions in the Senior and Junior Inter-District Volleyball Championships. The district table tennis contingent dominated the state championships, with Guwahati being declared the Best District Team in both the 72nd and upcoming 73rd Inter-District and State Table Tennis Championships. Players secured multiple gold medals across men’s, women’s and junior categories.

Cricket teams under the association also enjoyed remarkable success. Guwahati teams won titles in the Pulin Das U-14 Inter-District Tournament, the J.K. Barooah U-19 Tournament and the ACA Girls U-15 Inter-District Championship, while also finishing runners-up in several senior and women’s competitions. During the event, Devajit Saikia was specially felicitated for his re-election as Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and his reappointment as Advocate General of Assam. The ceremony was attended by several prominent sports administrators and dignitaries, including GSA President Paresh Chandra Das, office bearers of the association and representatives from the Assam cricket and sports fraternity. GSA officials thanked players, coaches, guardians, officials and media representatives for their continued support in promoting sports activities throughout the season.
