Kangpokpi Operation: Four Suspected Armed Cadres Held During Probe Into Abduction of Six Persons in Manipur

Imphal, May 26: Joint security forces comprising the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles apprehended four individuals in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday, May 25, during an operation linked to the ongoing investigation into the abduction of six persons earlier this month.

The operation was carried out in the stretch between P. Molding and Leilon Vaiphei inter-village road as part of intensified search efforts launched after six individuals were reportedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, 2026.

The four apprehended persons have been identified as Thangkhomang Khongsai (51) of Patbung village in Kangchup, Seikholet Khongsai (40) of Mongbung Tongneh in New Keithelmanbi, Lunminthang Dimngel (27), and Kamgoulal Khongsai (30).

According to security sources, the individuals are suspected to be active members of armed village volunteer groups operating in Kangpokpi district. Authorities further alleged that they may have been involved in various unlawful activities, including extortion, criminal intimidation and illegal possession of arms and ammunition.

Officials stated that investigators are also examining whether the four suspects had any role in the abduction case. Their alleged involvement in the incident will be determined during the course of further investigation.

Security agencies said the inquiry remains ongoing as efforts continue to trace developments related to the abduction case and associated activities in the region.
