Motok Student Organisations Stage Protest in Tinsukia, Submit Memorandum Highlighting Public Issues

The Tinsukia district committees of the Sadou Asom Motok Yuva Chatra Parishad and the Sadou Asom Motok Chatra Sanstha staged a protest demonstration at Thana Chariali in Tinsukia on June 1, demanding immediate government action on a range of issues affecting residents of the district.

Following the protest, representatives of the two organisations submitted a memorandum addressed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Tinsukia District Commissioner, outlining several concerns related to public welfare and development.

Among the key demands raised was the need for measures to control the rising prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders and essential commodities. The organisations stated that increasing costs have placed a significant financial burden on ordinary citizens and called for intervention to provide relief to consumers.

The student bodies also urged the government to undertake urgent repairs and improvement of roads across Tinsukia district. They alleged that deteriorating road conditions have caused difficulties for commuters and adversely affected development activities in several areas.

The memorandum further sought the preservation and protection of historical monuments and heritage sites associated with the Motok community and the region’s cultural heritage. The organisations stressed the importance of safeguarding these sites for future generations.

Healthcare was another major issue highlighted during the protest. The organisations called for strengthening services at Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital through the appointment of additional doctors, improvement of medical infrastructure and the provision of adequate healthcare facilities.

Expressing concern over the increasing prevalence of drug abuse, the protesters demanded stronger action against drug trafficking networks and more effective measures to protect young people from addiction and substance abuse.

The memorandum also called for the removal of illegal encroachments affecting public infrastructure and sought permanent solutions to several long-pending civic and developmental challenges faced by residents of the district.

Leaders of the two organisations said the demands reflected the aspirations and concerns of the people of Tinsukia and urged the state government and district administration to take prompt and effective steps to address the issues in the interest of public welfare and regional development.
