Pasighat, June 2: The 86th birth anniversary of noted novelist, writer and journalist Lummer Dai was observed with solemnity and respect at Pasighat on June 1, with literary organisations, intellectuals and admirers gathering to pay tribute to the celebrated literary figure.
The commemorative programme was organised by the Adi Agom Kébang in collaboration with literary enthusiasts and admirers of the late writer. Members of the organisation, led by its President Bodong Yirang and Adviser Kaling Borang, were joined by representatives of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society and the Assam Sahitya Sabha in offering floral tributes.
As part of the observance, participants garlanded an effigy of Lummer Dai while patriotic and cultural songs in Adi and Assamese were played, creating a reflective and nostalgic atmosphere throughout the event.
Speakers at the programme highlighted Dai’s immense contribution to literature and described him as one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most distinguished literary personalities. They noted that through his writings in Assamese, he vividly depicted the cultural traditions, heritage and social realities of the people of Northeast India, creating a body of work that continues to inspire readers and writers alike.
More than three dozen people attended the event and paid their respects to the late author. Among those present were retired IAS officer Tagom Darang, Dr. Kaling Dai, noted writer Nini Pertin, along with literary enthusiasts, intellectuals and members of civil society.
The gathering collectively remembered Lummer Dai’s lasting contributions to literature and journalism and underscored the importance of preserving and promoting the literary heritage that he championed throughout his life. His works, participants observed, remain an enduring source of inspiration for future generations across the region.
