A man from Assam’s Kokrajhar district died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati, with his family alleging that he was poisoned by his wife over suspicions of an extramarital relationship.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Brahma, a resident of Maibong Nagar in Kokrajhar. He passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment at Health City Hospital in Guwahati.
According to reports, Brahma fell seriously ill after consuming food that his family claims had been mixed with poison. Following the deterioration of his health, he was first admitted to MRM Hospital in Kokrajhar. He was later shifted to Assam Hospital in Bongaigaon for further medical care before being referred to Guwahati as his condition worsened. Despite treatment, he succumbed at the hospital.
Family members have accused his wife, Sayoni Pal Brahma, of being responsible for administering the alleged poison.
Rakesh Brahma’s mother, Parbati Brahma, said she had previously filed a complaint at Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station seeking action and justice in connection with the incident. However, she alleged that no steps were taken following her complaint.
The family has further claimed that the accused acted out of suspicion that her husband was involved in an extramarital relationship.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and brought attention to the circumstances surrounding Brahma’s death. Authorities have not officially confirmed the allegations made by the family, and an investigation into the matter is awaited.
