Wanted PLA Leader Held in Goa After Two Decades on the Run, Handed Over to Manipur Police

A wanted operative of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), who had allegedly been absconding for nearly 20 years, has been arrested in Goa and subsequently handed over to the Manipur Police, officials said on Sunday.

The Goa Crime Branch apprehended Nongthongbam Ingo, alias Krishna and Lal, from Margao in South Goa on June 19. Investigators identified him as a self-styled Lieutenant Colonel of the PLA, a banned insurgent organisation operating in Manipur.

According to police, Ingo had reached Goa on June 16 and was traced following specific intelligence inputs. He was wanted in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district of Manipur.

Officials said the arrest followed developments in an ongoing investigation after Manipur Police detained two alleged insurgents on June 5 in an extortion case registered under the UAPA. Information gathered during their interrogation reportedly helped investigators locate Ingo in Goa.

Police stated that Ingo had remained a wanted accused in the case and had managed to evade arrest for more than two decades before being tracked down and taken into custody. Further legal proceedings are expected to continue in Manipur.
