Guwahati, June 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that Japan has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its partnership with the state under India’s Act East Policy following a telephonic conversation with Japanese Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi.
In a post on X, Sarma stated that he received a call from the Ambassador on Thursday evening, during which both sides discussed avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
“Delighted to have received a phone call from H.E. Ono Keiichi, the Ambassador of Japan to India last evening. He reaffirmed the Japanese Government’s commitment to deepen its ongoing partnership with Assam under India’s Act East Policy,” Sarma wrote.
The Chief Minister said the discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in areas such as electronics, semiconductors, infrastructure, manufacturing and entrepreneurship, with both sides agreeing to explore further engagement in these sectors.
Sarma added that Assam is keen to work closely with Japanese enterprises and institutions in the coming period to attract investment, enhance industrial cooperation and generate new economic opportunities in the state.
The development comes shortly after the proposed visit of the Prime Minister of Japan to Assam was cancelled.
