The theft of a lawyer’s motorcycle from the Silchar court premises has triggered fresh concerns over security at the judicial complex, with members of the legal fraternity questioning the effectiveness of the existing surveillance arrangements.
According to reports, the motorcycle was stolen by unidentified persons after it had been parked within the court campus. The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who have launched an investigation into the case.
Lawyers alleged that the CCTV cameras installed across the court complex have remained non-functional for nearly a year. They claimed that despite repeatedly informing the authorities about the issue, no action has been taken to repair or replace the faulty surveillance system.
Members of the Bar stated that functioning CCTV cameras could have significantly aided investigators in identifying those involved in the theft. They said the absence of an operational surveillance network has made the investigation more challenging.
Following the incident, lawyers demanded immediate strengthening of security arrangements at the court complex, restoration of the defunct CCTV cameras, and the prompt arrest of those responsible for the theft.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of the court premises, with legal practitioners urging the authorities to install modern surveillance infrastructure and undertake regular security assessments to prevent similar incidents in the future.
